The Chandannagar Central Jagadhatri Puja Committee was established in 1933. Its formation marked a pivotal moment in the history of the festival, transforming it from a collection of individual 'para' (locality) pujas into a unified, centrally-managed event of immense scale and grandeur.

In the early 20th century, as the number of community pujas grew, so did the need for coordination. Challenges related to procession routes, scheduling, and liaising with the French colonial administration necessitated a governing body. A group of visionary leaders and community elders came together to form the committee with the primary objective of ensuring a peaceful, organized, and spectacular celebration for all.

Over the decades, the committee's role has evolved. From its initial focus on logistics, it has grown into the principal guardian of the festival's heritage, promoter of its artistic elements, and the crucial interface between hundreds of puja organizers, the public administration, and millions of devotees and visitors.
